About Charmaine
English tutor and mentor with experience supporting students across a range of ages, abilities and educational settings.
Hi, I'm Charmaine. I'm a qualified teacher with over 16 years of experience in education, and I'm also an English tutor and mentor.
Over the years, I've worked with students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, and I've seen first-hand that sometimes it isn't a lack of ability that holds a student back — it's a lack of confidence, the wrong environment, or simply not having the right support around them.
I particularly enjoy working with students who need a more personalised and flexible approach to learning, including those with SEND, low confidence, school anxiety or who have found school a difficult experience.
For me, tutoring isn't just about getting through a worksheet or ticking off a list of skills. It's about getting to know the student, understanding how they learn best and creating a space where they feel comfortable enough to have a go, make mistakes and try again.
My sessions are calm, encouraging and purposeful. I want students to make progress, but I also want them to start recognising what they can do and feeling more confident in themselves as learners.
Whether your child is preparing for GCSE English, needs support with their writing, is rebuilding their confidence after a difficult experience at school, or simply needs someone to teach them in a way that works for them, I'm here to help.
My aim is simple: to help every student feel more capable, more confident and more supported in their learning.
Sessions delivered online or as a home visit, depending on what suits your family best.
